Plants
Several species of plants (shrubs, trees and grasses) are found in the Gibson desert. These include triodia and desert bloodwood.
Triodia is a tall and strong type of grass. It grows to the height of two meters and the width of three meters. As the grass is very tough, the Aboriginal people use it to build shelter. In the olden days, triodia was also used for food. This type of grass is adapted well to the desert climate because this grass prefers the harsh, hot regions. Triodia covers about 20% of the vegetation in the Gibson Desert.
Desert Bloodwood grow in the low-rises of the desert. Desert Bloodwood have a rough bark, leathery leaves and roots that can contain a lot of water.
